Search Tips
If your keywords dont find resources you want . . .
Try looking under the Topic. Here are two ways to find relevant Topics. 1. Use another keyword or two, more general this time, then choose a relevant Topic from those shown at the bottom of each result. 2. Or browse through our Menu of Topics at the left.
We try to make sure that each Topic is filled with the most useful resources out there, even though, as a directory, we cant capture all the keywords in each.
Heres an example. You want to know more about reachers, so you search for that word. On CR at this writing there is only one listing with reacher in our summary description. Disappointed? You shouldnt be. Below that one listing you will see its Topic, Downwind Sails. Click on the Topic and you will find dozens of resources about cruising spinnakers, gennikers, asymmetricals, and so on.
If you choose a Topic and dont immediately see what you want . . .
Be sure to glance down all the listings on a Topic. Within a Topic, CR listings are grouped by common subject. For instance, listings within a gear Topic (Radar, Pumps) flow roughly as follows:
If you know you want installation information, you could save time by jumping to the later pages.
Different flows apply to skills, destinations, and other non-gear Topics.
If the Topic you select isn't quite on target . . .
Once youve found a Topic that seems close to what you want, check its Related Topics list in the right column. One of those might be closer to your needs.
For instance: Finding out how to make night watches easier may take you to Watchkeeping Skills, but what you want might be under its Related Topics, such as Shorthanding Skills.
If your good keywords produce an empty search . . .
If you key in the name of a cruising product or destination or boat and you get nothing, please let us know right away. Wed like to include it.
